Talk to Me:

Communicating Confidence
and Compassion

A patient's confidence in a doctor during a crisis or after an unexpected result can make the difference between acceptance and a lawsuit. Patients don't sue doctors they like regardless of outcomes.

Eliz draws on her own experience, and those of others, her degree in interpersonal communication and her father’s background as a psychologist educating physicians to talk to patients productively and positively.

In this session participants will:

  • Explore interpersonal strategies to convey confidence and compassion rather than distance and increase your perceived availability.
  • Discover how to create an environment of confidence by examining what your office, staff, and internet presence say about your abilities.
  • Discover how to communicate with family members without medical jargon.
  • Understand how much patients hear when intubated and appearing unconscious.
  • Learn how the patient’s confidence in your abilities impacts their recovery.
  • Discover why the small things make all the difference.
