Eliz Greene

Are you feeling like your projects, commitments, and obligations pulling your attention away from what is really important?

Are you wondering exactly what is the point of all of this running around?

Are you neglecting your health or giving up personal pleasures to fulfill other people’s priorities?

Take a moment to think about what is truly important to you.

In my program “Why Women Have Balls” I discuss how women can only consistently juggle three balls. While on a given day you may be juggling 12 things, which three things are your priority? Which three will you always make sure stay in the air?

Here are my three:

  • I will support and encourage my husband and help my daughters grow into confident, well-adjusted, and compassionate adults.
  • I will protect my health — because if I don’t, I can’t be sure I can do anything else.
  • I will give back for the gifts I’ve been given by helping other busy women lead healthier lives.

On a crazy day, keeping these three priorities in mind will help me make decisions about what I can and will do. If it doesn’t allow me to honor the things I hold to be important, it is perhaps time to say no. It’s not a perfect system. Yes, sometimes I overwhelm myself with commitments, but if I choose to juggle something more, I have more power over the situation than if I simply try to catch everything that comes my way.

“No” is a powerful word, and often one women have trouble using. We feel guilty about putting our priorities ahead of others. Keep in mind:

Saying no to something means saying an emphatic yes to somethingelse!

Say yes to what is important in your life, breathe deep, and have a great 2009.
