Get Outside to Reduce Your Stress!
One of the many perks of my job is getting to visit beautiful places. Today I awoke to singing birds at the Hidden Lake Bed and Breakfast in Jonesboro, Illinois. This evening I’ll be presenting Juggling Lessons for Life to hundreds of women at the Healthy Woman event sponsored by Union County Hospital. My list of things to do is long today – but I didn’t want to miss out on the beauty surrounding me! So, I started my day with a walk outside.
At home we are just beginning to see buds emerge, here spring is in full swing. All around it is lush and green – and smells so fresh!
Scientist have long know interacting with nature makes us feel better, more at peace. Even a few minutes can allow us to decrease stress, increase focus, and improve mood. Even looking at pictures of nature can help us recover from taxing activities. So, here I am refreshed (even after a 7 hour drive to get here yesterday) and ready to start the day.
So, when was the last time you went outside? When was the last time you took a moment to enjoy listening, seeing, and even smelling, something beautiful? Be kind to yourself and take a walk on the wild side!
